E-mackay task 1 (Deadline: August 5th)

Dear students,

This is the first e-mackay task which must be uploaded by August 5th. Write down a 100-word reflection (1 paragraph) in which you will answer the following questions:

1.4 If you were a doctor developing the technology to clone humans, how would you answer the following questions?

a Where would you conduct your cloning of humans?

b What kinds of people would you clone?

c What is more important: cloning the first human ever, or creating a healthy cloned child?

d Would you want the world to know about your experiments, or would you want to keep them a secret?

LISTENING ON SCIENCE AND ETHICS: A TED TALK

Dear all,

Today we will also work with a listening comprehension activity about science development and ethics. This listening is a Ted Talk by Paul Root Wolpe who examines the ethical implications of new science — genetic modification, neuroscience and other breakthroughs that stretch our current philosophy to the breaking point. He’s the chief bioethicist at NASA, among other issues. Watch the video here:

Take a look at these questions and answer them: Part 1 (0.11- 5.50)

  • The speaker talks about three waves of evolution in the history of our planet. Which is the first one?

Activity 1: Today we will watch part of the episode “A study in Pink” from the first season of “Sherlock”. As you watch this episode, answer the following questions on your copybook:

  3. What are Holmes and Watson going to share?
  4. What is Holmes address?
